Located south of La Crescent, this two span pony truss bridge crosses the Root River along Minnesota Highway 26.
Built in approximately 1901, the bridge features a pair of standardized 6-panel pin connected Pratt Through Trusses. These trusses are approached by a steel stringer bridge on the south, and the whole bridge sits on concrete substructures.
Trusses like these were common for medium sized spans along the Milwaukee Road system. Easy to construct and cheap, they were a favorite of the Milwaukee Road. When the bridge was originally built, it was approached by concrete girder spans on either side. However, these were replaced after 1918.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition. Recent stabilization to the structure has been done.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the truss design.
